Review and Opinions on My Engineer ep.14. Bear in mind that I usually criticize from gestures to acting to direction, so if you're not up for that, you should think twice about reading this.
Scene 1
MekBoss taking a nature walk. I'm still surprised at how this couple was the first to ever kiss on the show.
Anyway, Boss being his funny whiny self complains that he's tired from walking so his hubby offers his back. And just as we thought it would be a cute piggyback ride, *le gasp* the girlfriend arrived.
Honestly, I forgot about her. Lol. Because she didn't appear in the previous episode. In reality, I admire the fact that she admitted her lapses (and her manager's) - being focused too much on her rising career which hurt Boss's innocent love. On the other hand, it's quite awkward to declare your realizations in front of another guy. Lol. Or maybe this is just me. But then again, she was desperate for them to get back together. She even took the time to follow him and say that she went as far as quitting show business.

What I also like in this scene is that your usually 'idiot' Boss is simple-minded. The arrival of his gf meant a heartbreak for Mek - which he acknowledged immediately. Like he didn't act like what other men would do - which is to entertain the girl and let the other guy to walk away. He removed himself from Fon's embrace and explained the situation to his boyfriend.
But man, I feel for Mek. That was such an awkward thing to witness. He was someone who hid his feelings before, and now that the gf came back, what would his place be?

Scene 2
P'Doctor finds Frong's missing necklace.
He doesn't participate in camp activities and looks for Frong's important possession, a gift from his father. He then finds it and returns it to Frong.
Do I like this couple?
Story-wise I like them. Acting of Frong not much. Personal preference - I am not a fan of his physique and how he represents the 'third wheel' in the BonDuen couple back then. He's ok though. Don't get me wrong.
For P'Doctor, I like how weird he is and how he doesn't back down from Frong's previous childish attitude. He represents a mature young adult.
But I must say, funny how quickly he found the necklace even with a photo as evidence.

Scene 3
Bon seeking for Duen's forgiveness because he had a hunch that Duen might have witnessed his hugging scene with the other guy.
I was so annoyed at this couple during the previous episode. They have a very unstable foundation. While it's cute to 'act mad' so that your bf would coax you, Bon has the tendency to blow it out of proportion while Duen is very hesitant. Childish. So now, he can't see Duen back at the site and deduced that he might have left.
Scene 4
This is something that annoys me in every BL(or normal series) that has a forest/camping scenes.
One of the main characters - usually the uke or girl runs away and gets lost - and wait there's more - loses signal - and on top of that - gets wounded in the process.

Gawd.
I understand it's for the drama and the suspense, but seriously. You were not born yesterday not to know NOT TO WANDER IN THE FOREST ALONE.
And now he cries because he fell. I get he is heartbroken from the break-up he initiated, and this is a boys' love thing, but come on. Man up.
Serious thoughts on the acting: The crying was meh.
Anyway, Bon predictably finds him because that's how cliche 'lost in the forest' scenes concludes. They kiss and make-up.

Yay. 😒
I like Cooper's acting here. It was someone who looked relieved that they are back together.
They came back to the main site and everybody cheers them on.
IDK with you, but if this is reality, I would be worried and really pissed off that someone ran away and needs to be found. If you get what I mean? If my friend goes missing, I would be worried and help in the search, at the same time, be annoyed that he made everyone worry. Duen, if I were you I would have apologized to everybody.
But everyone was all smiles. Hey, who am I to judge?
Scene 5
Boss comes back too and approaches his bf. Mek doesn't want to believe in Boss. But who is Boss? Boss is someone who never gives up no matter how shameful the act is. Mek pulls away and LOL Boss finds a megaphone almost immediately and uses it to talk with Mek.
How sharp your eyes are, Boss.
MekBoss has the fastest pace in this episode and prolly in the whole series.

So again, everybody cheers them on. This camp is very lively huh. I can't blame Ting for saying:

Sorry girl. We fans are in the same boat. Haha Good that you're being surrounded by good-looking men. Bad for your single heart.
Scene 6
The reunited couple is back with their little fights. Bon wants to sleep in the same tent as Duen, but Duen, knowing that Bon was just teasing him...

Haha! Way to go Duen. Show him who's the boss.
This made me laugh so much!
Scene 7
Everybody's having a good time except Ram who keeps on glancing at King. King meets his eye.
At night, they play cards with liquor at stake. Everybody gets drunk except the initiator and Ram.
He attempts to wake a drunk King up... but awwwww. King pushes him away.
I can't with Ram's doe eyes. He looks so pure! He succeeds in picking him up though.
Scene 8
MekBoss again. Mek confronts Boss as to what happened before they made up. It is revealed that Boss told Fon that he likes Mek more. And not a bit of surprise, Fon actually knows what's going on and is ok with it. She breaks-up with Boss in a good manner.
Scene 9
Ram brings King to the tent. He is pushed away and asks why King is doing it. Under the influence of alcohol, King reveals that he hates himself and feels horrible that he feels so good with Ram.
Straight problems. LOL.
And so, without Ram reacting, King pushes him away again and was also the one who initiated a kiss.

King is hella confused. LMAO.
Theirs is my anticipated story among the couples. Ram is one lost puppy and King is his light. We have flashbacks of their moments, and then we see Ram returning the kiss.
Was the kiss good?
/drinks coffee nervously.
I like that their story moved, but after watching the progress of BL dramas, I must admit, this was a meh. But... /shrugs. If this is what makes the actors comfortable.
Scene 10
Bon wakes up with Duen missing again.
But he finds him quickly. Duen is stargazing and he joins him. He expresses his fears that Bon might get bored of him but Bon assures him that Duen is his cutest little dumb.

Finally an initiative from Duen!
Scene 11
King wakes up in Ram's arms.
They have a bit of a talk where King insists that Ram had forgotten what happened last night. And Ram just sort of play along with it.
LOL King. He's so sober last night.
They go separate ways after the camp. King receives a message that he wasn't drunk last night.
In your face, King.
Scene 12
A bit of MekBoss again teasing each other over snacks.
And then P'Doctor asking for Frong's Line. He sends Frong their couple picture.
TingTing sends Ram the photo they took together.
And at the end...
Duen asks for Bon's phone. It was to change his relationship status and declare that they are together...
And a season 2 is coming up!
OK HONEST THOUGHTS on the whole series.
• It's your usual teenage BL series where everyone are straight in the gang and together they become gay. In that sense, I wasn't expecting much.
• I haven't read the books so I don't know how it would compare to the series. I like it as a whole despite the many cringey jealous acts between Bon, Duen and Frong.
• In terms of cast, I can say that this batch are good-looking despite me having preferences. My favorite from them in terms of looks: King, Ram and the P'Doctor.
In terms of acting: I'd give it to Cooper as a whole (again, despite the cringey flow and script).
• This series is full of crack. I'm glad that most of the time it is funny and do not look like forced comedy. King's room, his sister, Bon consistently sending the gitf box to Duen? I enjoyed it.
• Among BL series with this kind of theme, My Engineer has the most balanced cut per couple. It did focus on the main couple at first, but as time goes on, nobody gets left behind.
• Script is meh in my opinion, but they delivered the flow well. It wasn't bad and there was progress in every episode. Direction is so-so.
• Kissing scenes are... sorry, it's cringey for me. As I've said, Thai BL has already progressed in terms of acting. Fake kisses were a thing back during Lovesick and MIR days. If this was shown back then, it would be my favorite, but I think we're already past the angled kisses, yeah? Maybe it's in their contract not to have too much 'skinship', idk. But for me it fell short of expectations.
• Soundtrack is catchy. I like it.
• They all lack in the crying department. Cooper not so much.
EXPECTATIONS for SEASON 2:
• RamKing
That's it. Lol. Personally, I think their stories are already good up to this point. MekBoss being together and BonDuen fixing their misunderstanding. Again, I haven't read the books, so I don't know if a new problem for BonDuen would exist. Perhaps another push and pull fight.
